On December 10, 2019, the Plaquemines Parish District Attorney’s Office sponsored a Basic Pistol/Revolver Safety and Skills Course for the Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office. DA Investigator and Certified Firearms Instructor/Range Safety Officer John Carlton taught the Coroner’s Office Investigators gun safety rules, proper operation of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols, ammunition knowledge and selection, pistol selection and storage, shooting fundamentals, pistol inspection and maintenance, marksmanship, shooting range safety, children and firearms safety and the Louisiana laws regarding carrying a concealed firearm. The Investigators successfully completed the classroom lessons followed by live fire training and a national shooting qualification course.
