Charles Ballay, the District Attorney of Plaquemines Parish, reports that on January 8, 2020, Jonathan Jason, age 39, of Ironton, Louisiana was sentenced to 40 years at hard labor by Judge Michael Clement for jury convictions on June 19, 2019 on Sexual Battery, Attempted Aggravated Rape and two counts each of Forcible Rape, Oral Sexual Battery and Cruelty to Juveniles. These crimes occurred in Plaquemines Parish between 2000 and 2018. Jason was indicted on August 24, 2018 by the grand jury based on an investigation that revealed that, starting in early 2006, Jason had repeatedly raped one of the victims for more than a decade, starting at the age of 5 years old.
The prosecution was led by 1st Assistant District Attorney Robert M. White and Assistant District Attorney Edward R. McGowan and Assistant District Attorney Sarah A. Tesvich, assisted by Tamara Davis, Viktorija Dekovic, Rae Riley and Bonnie Bondi of the District Attorney’s Office. Detective Holly Hardin and Detective Paul Durnin of the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office handled the investigation of the case, which involved three victims, two of whom were children.
