The Plaquemines Parish District Attorney’s Office reports that on Monday, July 30, 2023, at the start of the jury trial of, Hien Nguyen, age 45, from Buras, LA, he changed his plea to guilty of Aggravated Rape and 2nd Degree Kidnapping of a Juvenile.
The case came about when a social worker at Children’s Hospital contacted the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office that a young Asian female was at the hospital for a medical condition when she revealed the sexual abuse she endured when she was six years old, which was eight years earlier. PPSO began an investigation that lead to evidence of the crimes. The Plaquemines Parish District Attorney’s Office presented the charges to a Grand Jury where Indictments were returned against Hien Nguyen.
After the defendant plead guilty the victim gave an impact statement that was read to the court by Rae Riley, the Victim Assistance Coordinator of the District Attorney’s Office. Nguyen was then sentenced by Judge Kevin Conner to 25 years of hard labor in the Louisiana Department of Corrections and ordered to register as a sex offender for life.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney’s Jason Napoli and Mary Touzet and assisted by Viktorja Dekovic, Rae Riley, Chanda Barthelemy, and Donna Prest.
