Charles J. Ballay, District Attorney for the Parish of Plaquemines, reports that on October 1, 2024, Joseph Lafrance, age 56, from Braithwaite, Louisiana, plead guilty as charged to Aggravated Battery shortly before his trial by jury set on the same day.
On April 2, 2023, an adult female victim contacted P.P.S.O. to report that Lafrance threw a knife at her head from across the house and that when she put her hands up to protect her face and head, the knife lacerated her fingers. When P.P.S.O. arrived, Lafrance gave a statement that he threw the knife at her and that her fingers were cut.
The case was investigated by Deputy Corey Lieker in District 3.
This conviction carries a sentence of up to ten years with or without hard labor. Lafrance will be sentenced by The Honorable Judge Kevin D. Conner on November 12, 2024.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Mary Slavich Touzet and Jason Napoli. They were assisted by trial assistants, Viktorija Dekovic, Chanda Barthelemy, and victim assistance coordinator, Rae Riley.
